"Forest, Pollution and Biodiversity"
One day training project for students in High school and Lyceum.
- To become aware of the pollution problems threatening our planet.
- To understand the way human activities pollute the air, water and soil.
- To register local pollution problems and discuss them amongst themselves.
Structure of the project
A) Introduction to the subject matter and discussion.
B) Group work with the aim to understand the theoretical part of the project. This involves the use of work sheets and taking lab measurements of water samples.
C) Field work on Mt. Youchtas and in Archanes: students take temperature readings and pH measurements. They also take photographs; learn to orient themselves; observe their environment and take notes on biodiversity; they identify sources of solid waste and sound pollution, in addition to registering the kinds of refuse they come across in nature.
D) Discussion and evaluation: the students discuss in groups and make proposals that tackle environmental problems.
